Hello. My name is Dorcas Nung-Blake.
I'm mom to Kingston and live in Bellingham, Washington. It's on the hippie side of things here, which suits me just fine. When we moved up six years ago from Southern California (where I grew up) and I told my brother how "granola" it was, he said that I was always pretty granola anyway. So I should fit in.
Whatever that means.
If it means I want to know where my food is from, who helped produce it, or that I prefer eating whole, seasonal foods to anything packaged in a carton from a superstore, then I don't mind being called granola.
Besides, I love granola. It's delicious.
This is the blog I started after I became a mom then shuttered my child therapy practice. This isn't a "mom blog." Just a place for me to talk about life and the things I'm interested in, which as it turns out, are almost all focused on food -- cooking, baking, eating and foraging in the woods. Sometimes other things pop up, like stories about newborn fawn and other such bits. But in the end, every post leads back to something about life through the lens of food.
I've had other incarnations in past lives. Not literal past lives, as in we're travelling through time or parallel universes here. Just other careers and jobs. I worked in publishing in New York City a million years ago for example, went to graduate school twice (eek) and even sold fish and apples at the Brooklyn Farmer's Market at Grand Army Plaza.
Whatever I was doing, wherever I lived, I was always thinking about food. As I clearly still am.
Thanks for stopping by and exploring. Feel free to say hi and stay awhile.
Cheers!
